About Series Four
Warning: This page contains spoilers for the entire Season 4.
The season opens with the Doctor, alone yet again. Martha has left the Doctor at the end of Series 3.
The first episode of the season opens with the Doctor and Donna Noble (from The Runaway Bride) both investigating Adipose Industries, but doing it seperatly. Neither knows the other is there, and they continue their investigating in their own ways. The two happily reunite, and manage to stop the people of London being turned into baby Adipose. Donna gleefully accepts the Doctor's invitation in The Runaway Bride to travel with him, and even though he's wary to have another female companion. However, Donna insists the last thing she wants to do is fall in love with him, and he happily accepts her into the TARDIS.
Series Four was the return of a lot of loved and hated characters from the entire series. Throughout the season, Rose Tyler, the Doctor's companion from the first two seasons, pops up randomly in a few episodes, but then disappears again. The Doctor and Donna visit the Planet of the Ood, and help free the Ood. Martha Jones, the Doctor's companion from Season 3, returns as a member of UNIT, to get the Doctor to help them solve the ATMOS problem. She unwilling comes along with the Doctor and Donna when the TARDIS leaves with her still inside! She does manage to leave soon after, but returns for the series finale.
The Doctor and Donna travel to Pompeii on volcano day, to Agatha Christie's time, the biggest Library in history, and Donna sees an alternate universe where she never met the Doctor. There are several things mentioned in nearly every episode that come back to the series finale; the Medusa Cascade, the DoctorDonna, "There's something on your back" and randomly, the bees disappearing. All of these things come together in the two part series finale.
In the two part series finale, many of the Doctor's former companions make a comeback. Along with Martha Jones, the Torchwood Team make an appearance (Captain Jack, Ianto and Gwen all appear), along with Sarah Jane Smith and her son. And finally, Rose and the Doctor reunite for the first time since season 2. Mickey Smith and Jackie also return, and Mickey decides to stay, rather than return to the alternate universe. The series ends pretty tragically, and the Doctor is alone yet again:(
Series Four is my favorite season of Doctor Who (well, it's tied with series one). Donna Noble is probably my favorite companion. I love her relationship with the Doctor. Rather than being a love interest, she's just his friend, and she supports him the best she can. She also helps bring him back from the edge, and pretty much saves his life. They make a wonderful team, and I had so much fun watching them through the entire season. I also really enjoyed pretty much every episode of the series. Even the episodes I felt soso about, I still found things to enjoy about them. I loved the relationship between the Doctor and Donna, and how they supported each other. And mostly, I just loved how much fun they had together. Even though I was really sad to see this series end, I loved every minute of it!
